NextLooking for yoga or running leggings for someone else or upgrading our workout wardrobe requires an investment of time to get the right pair. Too big or too small, too tight or too loose, not wearing the right leggings to the studio or for our chosen exercise activity can distract us or stop us from reaching our yoga or fitness goals. So this week we’re sharing our advice for getting our yoga or workout leggings right, in the hope that it will inspire smart yoga legging decisions.
Choosing from full length, three quarter length or cropped length leggings is our first point of call. For yoga in particular, we recommend full coverage to allow for the greatest possible flexibility and support for all poses and postures, and to prevent slippage at the time when we need stability the most. It sounds counter intuitive, but even wearing full length for hot yoga can make sense - when we sweat, it’s good to introduce friction to our yoga clothing or workout outfit to retain our focus and move through our chaturanga or vinyasa flow with confidence.
High waisted leggings aren’t for everyone but going for a high waist number for high intensity exercise or a fast paced yoga session is what we lean towards, particularly when we might be performing an inversion or grounding down into a downward facing dog. Anything that goes over the hips and can stay up, without a drawstring or with a seamless waistband, is our definition of the perfect pair.
Seamless and stretchy, pockets and performance, choosing what we need for our workout or class is important. Pockets allow us to go hands free when we’re pounding the pavements, while seamless or stretchy fabric can help us really go deeper in our stretches or maximise effort. What we go for depends on the type of exercise or yoga we do. Elasticity is always good no matter what we’re doing, but it’s important not to have too much give so we feel in control. More on that in the next section.
Feeling uncomfortable when we’re practising yoga or working out is a no-no. We don’t want to feel constrained but we don’t want too much movement either. Finding the right fit is therefore crucial to ensuring our yoga leggings help, but don’t hinder, our practice. We recommend using the M Life fit finder and sizing up or down depending on how we want to feel and our yoga or fitness goals.
