What is athflow?
Athflow is an athleisure and loungewear phenomenon that is a reaction to the last year and a half of our lives. The involuntary, fundamental shift and change in our behaviours caused by various lockdowns has also led to an upheaval in what we wear and how we exist in the space around us.
This new, culture of comfort which we’re now exploring and growing into isn’t just about finding clothes that fit the new, working from home normal. Read our guide to what Athflow symbolises and why we should all get on board with this new mode of living below.
It’s not about being grungy or having a duvet day, every day
Before we get told off for becoming total slobs: athflow is about finding transitional, versatile clothing and accessories that help us with the new, hybrid existence of working from home (or living at work). It’s about investing in quality apparel and things for the home which make functioning and dressing make sense with our surroundings. Athflow doesn’t stop there though - embracing athflow values is about balancing, and mixing and matching anything and everything to make our blended lives our best lives.
Make a connection to the concept of a yoga ‘flow’
For us, flowing through the day in interconnected sequences, similar to how we flow through movements in yoga, is key. Adopting an athflow approach means we can wear the right outfit for a Zoom call but also do a quick yoga practice in between meetings, and how we’ve structured our days, time and wardrobes can accommodate the constant transition between different modes of living.
Styling for athflow is easier than it looks - and looks smart if we get it right
There’s a tendency to think athflow means ‘all black everything’ or old painting clothes. Infact, an athflow wardrobe is about combining lots of sumptuous, luxe-looking materials and fabrics with performance or ergonomic pieces which we can rely on when we need them. Nothing too tight but equally nothing that distracts us from being on top of our game. Think wide leg, flowy trousers with a yoga or activewear tank top and a sleek cover up. All outfits can be dressed up or down depending on what works. Don’t forget to check out the M Life website for some sartorial inspiration.
There’s a mental transition that comes with embracing athflow
The flexibility that comes with changes to our habits and ways of living and working can be super liberating. Lifting our mood and feeling ourselves comes with wearing the right thing and finding a routine that works for us, rather than one we have to work for. An athflow mindset includes taking time for ourselves and ensuring we have the right things in place to help us remain relaxed, in control and accepting of the fact that while life can be hard and throw all sorts at us, there are always changes within our power.
