Although we have had our fair share of sunshine this year, the days getting shorter and colder still take their toll on us and make us grumpy.
With the season changing, it can be easy to feel under the weather and get bored of the routine you’ve once loved. But let’s try and be positive about this change as there are many effective ways to keep the blues away.
Hydrate & Moisturise
Water is the fountain of life and while drinking it is a given, we sometimes have to remind ourselves to do so!
Make sure you keep a bottle close all day because keeping your body hydrated not only improves your mood but also boosts digestion and improves the quality of your sleep – not to mention gives you clear and glowing skin.
Don’t forget to protect your skin from harsh weather conditions by applying an extra layer of your favourite moisturiser. After all, a hydrated body and moisturised skin equal a happy mood!
Stay cosy & warm
The winter breeze calls for staying inside all wrapped up in your favourite blanket. You might as well finish that book you started reading months ago, or binge-watch that super-popular TV show your friends are crazy about. Make sure to wear your most relaxed outfits that keep you cosy and warm to prevent catching the much-dreaded seasonal sniffles.
The point is to slow down and indulge in extra self-care during these few months, so make a cup of tea, sit back, and relax while enjoying the beauty of doing nothing.
Boost your immunity
Keep your body in top shape and congestion-free by feeding it healthy foods and beverages that give you all the necessary vitamins. A strong immune system begins with a happy gut. Make sure you include high-fibre foods such as spinach, carrots, and whole grains in your day-to-day meals to keep the flu at bay. Drinking orange juice and eating foods that are high in Vitamin C will also help your immune system combat the viruses that spread like wildfire during this season.
Switch up your training
Exercising regularly is a must to keep your spirits high during any season. But as the seasons change, sometimes, your workouts should too. Try switching up your workout routine by incorporating resistance training into your workout routine. Lifting weights can indeed increase your mobility and strength and make you feel super empowered. If you find yourself bored with your regular routine, try getting your daily dose of cardio by going dancing or taking a dynamic walk around the block. Anything that gets your blood flowing does wonders for your cardiovascular health!
Sleep well
It is no secret that sleep is one of the major factors that affect our mood. Getting a good night’s sleep will help you go through your day in relaxed and happy spirits.
If you tend to struggle to fall asleep, make sure to keep your phone and laptop away about an hour before going to bed as it has been proven that staring at screens for long periods of time can prevent you from falling asleep.
Try practising some restorative yoga poses that help you unwind and get ready for bed. You will also be amazed at the quality of sleep you will be getting thanks to these relaxing poses!
