Yoga is a practice that dates back hundreds and hundreds of years. Throughout the centuries, the world of yoga has witnessed the rise of powerful and influential teachers who have passed on their undeniable wisdom and deep knowledge of the practice we have come to know and love, yoga. Today, we are giving you a brief on 5 of the most influential yoga teachers in our modern world so you can adopt their teachings in your day-to-day life (and practice!) and perhaps even join their classes.

Judith Hanson Lasater

You know those restorative yoga poses that make you feel so relaxed?
Well, Judith Hanson Lasater is the pioneer of restorative yoga. Here’s what you should know about her: she is a physical therapist who has been teaching yoga classes worldwide and writing books about it! She loved spreading her knowledge and love of yoga and has been called ‘One of the nation's foremost yoga instructors’ in the US.

She also assisted in founding The California Yoga Teachers Association, the Iyengar Yoga Institute in San Francisco, and Yoga Journal magazine.
Impressive, isn’t it?

Ana Forrest

Ana Forrest is an internationally-recognised pioneer in yoga and emotional healing. She created her own brand Forrest Yoga alongside her husband while working through healing from her own life’s traumas – abuse and addictions, the feeling of helplessness around the addictions and the ongoing suffering from chronic injuries & illnesses.
She began her journey by healing herself first, then she was inspired to teach others to heal themselves in ways they never thought they could: physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

Donna Farhi

Leading yoga teacher Donna Farhi has been practising for over 40 years and teaching since 1982. She teaches people from all over the world how to take yoga from the mat to their daily lives.
Year after year, students keep coming back to Donna’s classes to benefit from her wonderful experience and yoga wisdom! Her book 'Bringing yoga to life' is a perfect starting point for those wanting to delve deeper into the roots of yoga philosophy.

Shiva Rea

Shiva is the founder of Prana Vinyasa and the Samudra Global School for Living Yoga where she combines the roots of vinyasa, yoga, Ayurveda and tantra in super innovative and life-changing ways. She gives different kinds of courses and training encouraging yogis to try new things and embrace that beautiful energy flow they get during the practice. Tantra, Ayurveda, Krishnamacharya lineage, Kalarippayattu from CVN Kalari, World Dance and somatic movement studies have inspired her approach to living yoga and embodying the flow.

Max Strom

‘Breathe to heal’ is Max’s motto. Not only is he a yoga teacher who has been practising and teaching for decades, but he is also a 3-time TED speaker and an author whose books have become widely popular within the yoga community. Max has created a ground-breaking practice of breathing exercises aiming to treat depression, anxiety issues, PTS and sleep issues. His tried-and-true technique focuses on the causes rather than the symptoms and is known to yield quick and tangible results.
If you are curious to try Max’s breathing exercises, they are available in workshops, online courses and retreats.
