New year often marks a fresh start and encourages us to establish healthier habits. While the surge of motivation gets us making many resolutions, the challenge is to create habits that last past January. We are sharing tips on how to invite a sustainable change in your daily life without overstretching yourself.

 

Build strength by sleeping

If you want to turn your life around and do everything a bit better, start by doing nothing really well – yes, we mean sleeping. 

Getting regular 7-8 hours of sleep every night is essential for your body and mind to take you where you want to be and help you achieve your goals; big or small. 

Start by working on your bedtime routine, which must exclude mobile phones and screens at least an hour before you fall asleep. Wind down early every night to be able to wake up with more ease and in a better mood!

 

Feed your body & soul

Now that you are sleeping well, it is time to think about eating better. 

Your body needs nutritious foods and drinks to function properly and it all begins with staying hydrated. Make sure to keep a big water bottle close to minimise your trips to the kitchen for refills and drink it throughout the day.

As for your meals, they should include vegetables, protein and healthy fats. If you are not big on meat and chicken, you can opt for high-protein snacks or protein shakes. Don’t forget to eat your bowl of fruit as well! 

 

Get things moving

Good sleep and healthy nutrition are the foundation which helps you get your blood flowing and gain even more energy for the day. Exercising boosts your mood and improves the quality of your sleep.

Try building a daily routine of varied physical exercises that last from 5 minutes to half hour such as a morning run, a HIIT workout or a gentle stretch. The important part of feeling amazing is not how hard you will push yourself, but how consistent you can be.

 

Create a new habit

If you have been looking for something new to include in your daily routine, now is the time to make that happen!

When you start by improving your basic healthy habits such as nutrition, exercise and sleep, you will have more energy to focus on adding more to your plate. 

To avoid being overwhelmed, choose one habit at a time and start small. It could be something as simple as not checking your phone as soon as you open your eyes or planning your week every Sunday night. 

The secret to a successful habit change is to take it easy and steadily. Get inspired by 'Atomic Habits' book by James Clear. Move slowly and don’t put too much pressure on yourself. At the end of the day, these habits are here to help you stay grounded and healthy, not add more stress to an already chaotic life.
